Forgotten Ships: Unfinished Voyages to New Zealand 1820-1925
by Bruce E. Collins

Over the period 1820 to 1925 hundreds of ships made
successful voyages to New Zealand bringing thousands of
immigrants, livestock and cargo to the ‘new’ land. Despite
somewhat basic navigational instruments and knowledge
compared to today the experience of the officers, seamen and
shipping companies resulted in only a very small proportion of
ships never finishing their voyages. For the first time this book
collates the details of many of these unsuccessful voyages in
terms of how the ships came to grief and fate of the passengers
and crew.
